About
Out-of-School is a 190 m2 educational space that allows children to experience outdoor all school activities such as studying, exercising, playing sports, dining, hav-ing concerts and other social events. The project consists of an amphitheatre area, two rope playgrounds, three shaded study/dining tables with swings instead of chairs, hammock recreation areas.
The project is located in SS. Cyril and Methodius School in the city of Sveti Vlas, Bulgaria. This is one of the few schools in the country that recognizes the benefits of the outdoor education. For example, Out-of-School blurs the boundary between academic learning and creative play, encourages experimental methods of teaching such as multi-sensory and interdisciplinary studying. Another positive effect of the outdoor classroom is that the proximity to the surrounding neighborhood often leads to service learning projects that emphasize social involvement and responsibility. On the other hand, the access of the neighborhood residents to the classroom and the learning process promotes local volunteering.
